One
of the biggest challenges facing Kano state Universal Basic Education
Board (KNSUBEB) today is effective retention strategies of its
manpower. The purpose of this paper is to examine the issues,
challenges and perspectives of retention strategies in KNSUBEB. This
study adopted documentary research. Data were obtained from purely
secondary sources from circulars, publications, journals, magazines
and government gazettes especially as it relates to Kano SUBEB. This
method was justified on the premise that information needed for the
study is sufficiently available to provide a reasonable ground and
arrive at valid conclusion. The study discovered inter-alia that there is
strong relationship between retention strategies adopted by
management of KNSUBEB and teachers performance. Issue like poor
recruitment process, poor compensation packages, delayed promotion,
mismatch in training opportunities were the major challenges affecting
employee retention strategies in KNSUBEB. It is therefore
recommended that the management of KNSUBEB should give more
priority to merit based recruitment, issues of political patronage and
party affiliations that characterized recruitment process should be
jettisoned. Compensation packages should be improved to cope with
current economic realities, Promotion should be timely as at when due,
and training opportunities should be given based on training needs
assessment.
Mubasshiru Salisu Mohammed, Bashir Yusuf Copyright (c) 2025 https://ijohuss.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijohuss/article/view/67 Tue, 05 Aug 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Legal Interventions of the Arbitration and Mediation ACT, 2023 of Nigeria https://ijohuss.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijohuss/article/view/74
The paper brings into focus the innovations of the New Arbitration and Mediation Act, 2023 of Nigeria. The paper relied on the doctrinal method of research and found that the Arbitration and Mediation Act, 2023 of Nigeria is a great development as it took care of some of the gaps identified under the old Arbitration and Conciliation Act of 1988. It further identified some gaps under the New Arbitration and Mediation Act, 2023 of Nigeria which include outright omission of section 46 of the Act. The paper concludes that the Arbitration and Mediation Act is a welcome development in Nigeria and an alignment with international best practices.
A. A. Oluwabiyi, O. A. Ajani, J.O. The link of language and
science has grown stronger in this century of swift technological
breakthroughs and international cooperation. Language serves as both a
medium for the dissemination of scientific knowledge and a symbolic
framework that shapes the conceptualization and understanding of scientific
ideas. Language and science have a symbolic relationship because it
transforms abstract scientific concepts into understandable forms that facilitate
communication, criticism, and improvement. The terminology used to
characterize scientific disciplines changes together with them, reflecting the
dynamic nature of scientific investigation. The multilingual and
heterogeneous environment of worldwide research in the twenty-first century
has brought attention to how important language is to promoting inclusion as
well as diversity within the scientific community. Translating and interpreting
scientific results into other languages has become essential for increased
collaboration and transmission. English has also emerged as the de facto
language of science due to the worldwide nature of scientific collaboration,
which promotes international cooperation but also poses issues with linguistic
diversity and justice. Language and science are strongly intertwined in two
other fields: artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP).
This paper recommends, among other things, that scientists can cooperate
with international colleagues and convey their findings more successfully if
they have a deeper awareness of linguistic peculiarities. Scientists presenting
difficult ideas and facts in more effective ways can benefit from the assistance
of linguists.
Beatrice Bunmi ADEYEMI, Olusegun Agagu Copyright (c) 2025 https://ijohuss.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijohuss/article/view/70 Tue, 05 Aug 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Exploring the Impact of Psychosocial Factors on Social Functioning among Undergraduate Students within the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria https://ijohuss.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijohuss/article/view/65
This study investigated the predictive relationship between psychosocial
factors specifically life skills and emotional intelligence on social
functioning among undergraduate students and assessed the extent to which
demographic variables (mode of entry, course of study, sex) can predict
social functioning of undergraduates at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile
Ife, Nigeria. Drawing on a sample of undergraduate students from the
thirteen different faculties within the university in the study area, data was
collected using standardized measures of Life Skills Scale (LSS), Emotional
Intelligence Scale (EIS), and Social Functioning Scale (SFS). Statistical
analyses, including regression analysis, were employed to examine the
extent to which life skills and emotional intelligence predict social
functioning. The results disclosed that a combination of life skills and
emotional intelligence is able to explain at least 0.776 or 77.6% of the
observed variance of undergraduate students‘ social functioning. Innovation involves generating new ideas and
transforming them into products, processes, or services, which drive economic
growth, create employment, and yield profits for innovative enterprises.
Industrial sustainability, on the other hand, is the process of initiating,
planning, and implementing changes that foster societal transformation. The study explores whether the public perception is that
ICT contributed either with a good or bad impact on photojournalism, as well
as how this perception has impacted objectivity and originality.
The study found that the majority of OUI students, Vanguard and Guardian
Newspaper perceive that ICT has had a positive impact on photojournalism,
leading to improved objectivity and originality in photojournalistic work. In
particular, the study found that photojournalists are increasingly using
technology such as digital cameras and editing software to improve the quality
of their work, resulting in more accurate and original photos. In addition, the
adoption of social media networks like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook has
helped to increase the visibility and reach of photojournalism work.
However, the study also found that there are some concerns about the impact
of ICT on photojournalism. Some people believe that the use of technology
can lead to a loss of authenticity and intimacy in photojournalism work.
Others argue that the rise of 'citizen journalism' through the use of ICT has
resulted in a decline in journalistic standards and quality control. The study
therefore highlights both the advantage and flaws of (Information and
Communication Technology) ICT in the field of photojournalism, and calls
for more research to be done on this topic.
The research was conducted using quantitative methods, including a survey
and data analysis. A total of 314 respondents participated in the survey,
including students from OUI, as well as journalists from Vanguard and
Guardian Newspaper. The data was analyzed using statistical techniques to
identify patterns and trends. The results were then used to draw conclusions
about the impact of ICT on photojournalism.
Enoch Aduragbemi Odesola, Moyosore Alade Copyright (c) 2025 https://ijohuss.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijohuss/article/view/69 Tue, 05 Aug 2025 00:00:00 +0000
